My children would love to have their home kitchen run just like our small town café… complete with menus, tablecloths and all the particulars! Then, they could order their favorite meal whenever they get hungry. Today we are going to give our children a fun taste of what it might be like to actually transform your kitchen into “Your Family’s Café”. So, Ditch the Desk, focus on your reading/writing skills in weeks one and two while we create our own menus! In weeks three and four, we will focus a bit more on math and menu planning with a bit of kitchen cuisine thrown in!

Click on both links and download to receive TWO FREE LESSONS about My Family’s Cafe. All work is property of Inger Koppenhaver and may only be used for personal or classroom use. Share our website address with others (do not send the document in electronic format, resell or host on other sites) so they can download this as well!:

Thank you so much! As I type, my children are arranging buckets and found items to make a restaurant on our front porch. This will be great to sneak in some school-type work in the next few weeks. Looking forward to more!

I am glad you popped by! It is so much fun when kids use their imaginations… and when they decide to create their own pretend businesses it becomes the perfect time to sneak in a bit of learning! Hope the rest of your summer is fantastic!

We are new to homeschooling so I’m devouring anything and everything I can to prepare. This sounds like it’s just up my 12 year old’s alley. I had already decided to incorporate cooking into her curriculum. You made it that much easier. Thanks!!

Hey Tressa! I am so glad you stopped by. We also have bought a couple of kid friendly cookbooks and use Pinterest a lot when looking for new ideas. I hope your first year of homeschooling is fun! My girls just turned 12 this year too 🙂 What a fun age to start homeschooling!

Thank for this information. We home school 5 kids and we don’t “do school”, but focus on education. All day, every day. I have discovered that almost every moment in a child’s life will open up doors of educational opportunities! This sounds like so much fun…especially with kids ranging from 4 up to 18….everyone will be able to find their own little niche! Thank you for this!

I agree Erica! We take regular opportunities to Ditch the Desk and just learn by doing and exploring ~ the best kind of education! 🙂 So glad you commented!
